August 4, 2020 Beirut the capital city of Lebanon was rocked by an explosion that was comparable to a small nuke when a fire in a port warehouse hanger spread to an estimated 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate commonly used in high nitrate fertilizer setting it off & killing 218 people. It injured a total of 7000. The ammonium nitrate had been improperly stored there since arriving in the Port of Beirut on a Maldovan - Flagged ship named the “Rhosus” that was docked & abandoned w/ the volatile payload in its cargo. It was offloaded into hanger 12 in the port in October of 2014 & remained until the 2020 catastrophe. The then Prime Minister & two former ministers were charged with Homicide w/ probable intent after an investigation. The explosion displaced 300,000 people and caused $8 billion in damage. #explosion #disaster
