The U.S. Coast Guard is responsible for regulating more thant 35,000 commercial boats in Florida, through annual inspections and incident investigations. But after a fire on board a shuttle boat forced 50 people on a "cruise to nowhere" to jump into the frigid Gulf of Mexico, there are new questions about whether there is currently enough attention paid to the condition of vessels and passenger safety.
