In recent days, a series of analyses have exposed the extent to which the U.S. financial sector has been enabling the military build-up, domestic repression and global ambitions of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Among these products are analyses of: the insinuation by Vanguard and the FTSI-Russell Index of CCP “A shares” into the portfolios of many millions of mostly unwitting American investors; the extent to which Chinese companies traded on U.S. exchanges are supporting Iran’s regime and its growing threat; the involvement of 5 leading venture capital firms here in identifying and helping transfer to the CCP cutting-edge and, in many cases, militarily relevant technologies; and how Wall Street funds China’s rise.

These products are the more striking as they have been issued as the Chinese capital markets, real estate sector and banks have been in free-fall. The cumulative losses for China’s own and for foreign investors are incalculable. And the fiduciary folly of continuing to send more funds from American pension participants, mutual fund, 401k plans, Exchange Trade Funds and other investment vehicles – to say nothing of the associated strategic peril – is indisputable.
