From Seneca Falls to New York City’s Lower East Side, from Buffalo to Brooklyn, New Yorkers were instrumental in the success of the suffrage movement. Suffragettes such as Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth, Carrie Chapman Catt and Elizabeth Cady Stanton fought tirelessly for a woman’s right to vote which was finally granted in New York State elections in 1917. Three years later on August 18th, 1920, the 19th amendment was ratified, allowing women to vote in all elections.
Together, 100 Years after women received the right to vote, we can elect the first woman mayor of New York City!
