Judge grants stay for Lawrence professor facing deportation
6 years ago
A judge granted a stay for Syed Jamal Wednesday night, according to his attorney. The chemistry professor and father of three faced deportation after his arrest in Lawrence in late January. ICE officers picked Jamal up from the Platte County jail Thursday morning, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office. It's unclear where Jamal would be going immediately, but his attorney confirmed to 41 Action News reporter Sarah Plake that he would not be deported.
