Russian President Vladimir Putin toured a tank factory in Sverdlovsk’s Nizhny Tagil, where he reviewed production of Russia’s T-72 and T-90 tanks. Putin thanked the workers at Uralvagonzavod for their hard work in not only manufacturing, but in modernizing the production of Russia’s two most prominent main battle tanks, saying ‘a thank you… from myself personally and from our guys who use your equipment.’ He praised the equipment produced at the plant as ‘worthy of the best epithets,’ and also the efforts made by personnel to travel almost all the way to the front lines to service and maintain their military hardware.

Uralvagonzavod is Russia's largest designer and producer of military hardware, having operated since the 1930s. T-72 and T-90 tanks have been produced continually on the site since the 1970s and 1990s respectively, as well as other combat vehicles and military hardware.
