Controversial 'Sanctuary' Church Sets Alleged NYPD Attacker Free

An illegal migrant who allegedly attacked two New York Police Department officers was recently released from jail after a “sanctuary” church in Brooklyn posted his $15,000 cash bail, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

Yohenry Brito, a 24-year-old Venezuelan migrant, was the only individual held behind bars after he and a gang of other illegal migrants allegedly assaulted two police officers on January 27. Brito was being detained at Rikers Island until Tuesday, when Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bay Ridge paid his bail, according to Reverend Juan Ruiz.

Ruiz told the Post, “Our church is basically a sanctuary.”
