Two people believed to be involved in a shooting were arrested after running from police in northeast Portland Tuesday night.

Police say two people were seen firing guns from a pickup truck just after 7 p.m. in the area of Northeast Fremont Drive and Northeast Russell Place. Police said they do not know at this time if anyone was hurt by the gunfire.

A short time later, officers found the suspect vehicle, but the driver fled and a chase began. Police said the pickup raced along Portland streets at a “high speed,” swerved into oncoming traffic lanes and ran “traffic control devices.”

An Air Support Unit helped officers follow the suspects during the chase.

Police say officers spiked the tires on Northeast 82nd and Northeast Thompson, then the truck spun out at Northeast 81st and Northeast Milton. The driver ran on foot but was arrested a couple of blocks away a few minutes later.

The two suspects were arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Jail. Police said at least two guns were seized as evidence.

The suspects were identified as:

23-year-old Arinoldo B. Cruz-Garcia of Gresham.
Cruz-Garcia is charged with shooting a firearm in the city, unlawful use of a weapon, attempting to elude police by vehicle and on foot, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

21-year-old Ahanu M. Johnson of Fairview.
Johnson is charged with shooting a firearm in the city, unlawful use of a weapon, possessing a loaded firearm in public and recklessly endangering another person.
