Striped Skunk Gathers Grass For Maternal Nest
Footage from "Bunkhouse Skunks."
Refs say they mate in February; kits in April then all move on soon after that. Skunks do not linger in any one den for very long except in some communal winter dens or, in this case, a likely future mom preparing her nest. Typically they don't bother lining their regular nests or gathering vegetation. Again as I understand it.
Notes:
1. Bunkhouse not used except for old storage.
2. There are big access entrances like this on each side! Last summer this clearly hosted several cottontails (which now appear limited to tunnels under the big orange cargo container). Co-habit in same place if big enough?
3. Never a problem. No sign of close approach; ? if cats relate or cause them to steer clear.
4. Are these the same ones from "Tussling Tails"? Est. 200 yard separation across open field, past barn to old blacksmith pit.
