Megaro celebrates the 90th birthday of Mikis Theodorakis and presents again the July 29th concert in the Garden, which was enthusiastically embraced by the audience, this summer. A tribute to the world-loved songs of the great composer that were whispered by thousands of people from one end of Greece to the other in far corners of the world. In this special celebration for Miki's 90th birthday, Eleni Vitali, Basilis Lekkas and Betty Harlautis will sing. With them, the Folk Orchestra "Mikis Theodorakis".
The universal message of the music of the multidimensional Greek composer, who was born in Chios in 1925, always remains relevant and has a genuine folk character. Miki's songs, which defined modern Greek culture, simultaneously touch, through the original humanism of their creator, sensitive chords of the peoples of the world, leaving an indelible mark on our collective consciousness.
The value of Mikis Theodorakis as a composer has been recognized all over the world by critics and governments of foreign countries, especially by the Greek people themselves, a people who, through the music of the great creator, expressed their joy and sorrow , his frustration and anger, his national pride and sometimes his national withering.
In this special two-hour musical journey, songs will be heard that accompany the beautiful but also the difficult moments of our lives over the years: "Beautiful city", "Phaedra", "Lost roads", "We are two" , "I kept my life", "May Day", "The lad has woe", excerpts from Axion esti etc.
The Folk Orchestra "Mikis Theodorakis" was created in May 1997 by musicians-collaborators of M. Theodorakis, connoisseurs of his work, which they attempt to highlight in various ways (concerts, performances, television appearances, recordings). The first appearance of the Orchestra was at the Aixoni Theater in Glyfada in June 1997. Since then, the "Mikis Theodorakis" Folk Orchestra has given many concerts throughout Greece and abroad in collaboration with renowned artists of the old and new generation, attracting excellent reviews and promoting Greek culture.
