NASA Launches New Satellite to Study Oceans, Atmosphere

The latest satellite from the American space agency NASA, named PACE (Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, Ocean Ecosystem), was successfully launched on February 8 using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

NASA confirmed the launch and communicated that ground controllers had established contact with the satellite.

PACE is designed to closely examine the Earth’s oceans and atmosphere and will orbit at an altitude of 676 kilometers above the planet’s surface for a minimum of three years.

NASA officials state that PACE will daily map the entire globe using two scientific instruments, while a third instrument will gather monthly measurements.

Scientists anticipate receiving initial data within one or two months, VOA reported.
