For example, he made billions investing in European currencies before the creation of the Euro, by leveraging the currency of one country against another. He made a billion dollars buying and devaluing the British Pound in the 1990's and he almost collapsed their economy. Soros has used his wealth over the years since becoming a billionaire to also invest in the politics of certain nations, such as the United States. His Open Society Foundation has worked to organize communities, grant scholarships to under privileged students, elect district attorneys, and much more. Soros calls this work, "political philanthropy".
