In this interview, Dan Hellwig and Jared discuss the field of Forensic DNA and some of the new technologies being used. Dan Hellwig has been in the forensic DNA sciences for decades and held positions in both public and private labs. Today he shares the latest DNA perspective and updates us on Intermountain Forensics (https://www.intermountainforensics.com/), the first non-profit forensic DNA lab in the United States and possibly the world.

Forensic DNA collection, identification, and lab processing have advanced exponentially over the last decade, and have become a vital part of every criminal investigation. In the 1990s it required a blood spot the size of a half dollar to get even the most basic information. Today we can identify individuals with the accuracy of one in trillions with the DNA material that would fit on the sharp end of a pin.
