Israel said two male Israeli hostages have beenrescued in Rafah, as Israeli air strikes hit the southern Gazan city.

One official from the Hamas-run health ministry said48 Palestinians were killed in the strikes, while another says it's "about 100".

The Israeli military said Fernando Simon Marman, 60,and Louis Har, 70, were rescued from an apartmentin Rafah during the raid, which was accompanied by"aerial coverage and a wave of strikes".

The strike follows warnings from the internationalcommunity over Israel's planned offensive in the city,where 1.5 million people are sheltering.
