Columbus 1st grader treated for flu, scarlet fever before death

A 7-year-old Columbus girl was treated for the flu and scarlet fever before her death, according to the coroner. Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting said Savanna Jessie was found unresponsive in her home Thursday morning and rushed to Columbus Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Nolting said the child was being treated after testing positive for influenza B, strep throat and scarlet fever.
