Adorable squirrel knocks over GoPro at birdfeeder

Bird feeders are a welcome addition to any garden or backyard, bringing a variety of colorful birds, but they bring another creature as well. Squirrels are adorable and entertaining to watch, but the scoundrels wreak havoc with bird feeders. They guzzle more than their share of food, often chasing the birds away in the process. They are crafty and persistent little scoundrels, and they don't give up easily once they sense that food is at hand. This home owner put a GoPro camera in place at his wife's bird feeder to record the birds and see just who was coming to visit daily. The meal that was being served was peanuts in the shell, a favorite of the neighborhood crows and jays.

But the peanuts in the shell seem to be the favorite food of the red and black squirrels too. It's no surprise to see the appear and boldly sit at the feeder to chew on their treats. This sassy little red squirrel picked up an peanut and turned sideways as if to look right at the camera while he munched. After a few minutes of chewing, he took his peanut and scampered off, right over the GoPro camera, knocking it down in the process.

Could this have been an intentional act, trying to tell the home owner that he simply wants privacy? Or could it have simply been curiosity causing him to climb on top of this new object. Either way, he provides us with a delightful, close up view of his adorable features while he chews away happily.

Love them or hate them, squirrels are cute and they are a lot of fun to watch. It's even fun when you manage to come up with a way to keep them from stealing the bird food, although those victories are often short lived!
