Charles I was indeed the King of England, reigning from 1625 until his execution in 1649. He was the second son of James VI of Scotland (later James I of England) and Anne of Denmark. His reign was marked by conflicts with Parliament, particularly over matters of taxation and religion, leading to the outbreak of the English Civil War in 1642. Charles I, a staunch believer in the divine right of kings, clashed with Parliament over the extent of his authority and attempted to rule without their consent, leading to a breakdown in governance. His defeat in the Civil War ultimately resulted in his trial and execution for treason in 1649, making him the only English monarch to be executed by his own people.
