Silent Hill 2 (サイレントヒル 2 Sairento Hiru Tsū?) is a survival horror video game developed by Team Silent of Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo and published by Konami. It is the second title in the Silent Hill series and was released for PlayStation 2 in September 2001, with an Xbox version debuting in December and for Microsoft Windows in December 2002. The story focuses on James Sunderland, a widower who travels to city of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his late wife informing him that she is waiting for him. Gameplay involves navigating different locations in the city, acquiring items, solving puzzles, and facing a variety of monster types.

Development on Silent Hill 2 began in June 1999, shortly after the completion of the original Silent Hill. The decision to produce the title for the PlayStation 2 was partially motivated by Konami's desire to quickly transition to the new platforms that were entering the market; the new platform ended up allowing a technical improvement in relation to the first game. The narrative was inspired by the novel Crime and Punishment, with the team taking influence from the works of several film directors for the artistic conception. The soundtrack was composed by Akira Yamaoka, who sought to create music that aroused emotions in the player, as well as different sound effects in the compositions such as screams and broken glass.

Silent Hill 2 received widespread critical praise. In the month of its release in North America, Japan and Europe, over a million copies were sold, with the biggest sales coming from North America. Upon release, it was widely praised for its psychological horror story, use of metaphors, overall atmosphere, graphics, monster design, soundtrack, and sound design. However, it received criticism for its controls and voice acting. It was considered by several outlets as one of the best horror games ever made. The game was preceded by Silent Hill 3. A remake was announced in October 2022
