Durante una entrevista de dos horas con Tucker Carlson en Moscú el martes, el Sr. Putin acusó a los países de la Organización del Tratado del Atlántico Norte (OTAN) de intentar intimidar a sus poblaciones con una amenaza rusa “imaginaria”.

La OTAN es una alianza militar formada por 29 países europeos, junto a Estados Unidos y Canadá.

Cuando el Sr. Carlson le preguntó si creía que la OTAN estaba preocupada de que el conflicto de Ucrania se convierta en una guerra mundial o en un conflicto nuclear, Putin respondió: “Al menos eso es lo que ellos dicen”, y atribuyó esa preocupación a intentos de manipular a la opinión pública.

“Ellos están tratando de intimidar a su propia población dentro de una amenaza rusa imaginaria”, añadió el Sr. Putin. “Esto es un hecho evidente”.

“¿Enviar tropas rusas a Polonia?”
En la entrevista, el presidente ruso aclaró que la amenaza de la que él hablaba se refería a la posible expansión del conflicto, incluyendo fuerzas rusas que invadan Polonia y otros países de Europa del Este.

“¿Puede imaginar un escenario en el que se envíen tropas rusas a Polonia?”, le preguntó el Sr. Carlson.

El presidente Putin afirmó categóricamente que tal escenario solo ocurriría si “Polonia ataca a Rusia”.

“¿Por qué haríamos eso? Nosotros simplemente no tenemos ningún interés. Esto es solo una amenaza”, añadió el mandatario.

También descartó la acusación de que su invasión a Ucrania indique que tenga grandes ambiciones territoriales.

“Eso está absolutamente fuera de lugar”, dijo Putin. “No hay que ser ningún tipo de analista. a en contra del sentido común involucrarse en algún tipo de guerra global, ya que una guerra global llevaría a toda la humanidad al borde de la destrucción. Eso es evidente”.

Según el Sr. Putin, Rusia ha sido utilizada para “asustar a todos” en Estados Unidos y Europa con la amenaza constante de una guerra nuclear, con el fin de “extorsionar dinero adicional de los contribuyentes estadounidenses y europeos en un enfrentamiento con Rusia en el escenario de guerra ucraniano”.

“El objetivo es debilitar a Rusia tanto como sea posible”, añadió el mandatario.

La entrevista, que supone la primera vez que un periodista occidental entrevista al presidente ruso desde que comenzó el conflicto en 2022, ahondó en diversos temas.

En defensa de la guerra en Ucrania, el Sr. Putin habló durante más de 30 minutos sobre la historia de Europa del Este.

“Díganos por qué cree que Estados Unidos podría atacar a Rusia de improviso”, le preguntó el Sr. Carlson. “¿Cómo ha llegado a esa conclusión?”

“No es que América, Estados Unidos, fuera a lanzar un ataque sorpresa contra Rusia”, dijo Putin. “Yo no he dicho eso. ¿Estamos teniendo una tertulia o una conversación seria?”.

La guerra “terminará en pocas semanas” si Estados Unidos deja de armar a Ucrania
En octubre de 2022, el presidente ucraniano Volodymyr Zelenskyy cerró las perspectivas de tener conversaciones de paz con el Sr. Putin cuando firmó un decreto.

Cuando el Sr. Carlson le preguntó al Sr. Putin por qué no habían mantenido conversaciones de paz, él respondió refiriéndose al presidente Zelenski: “Pero, ¿cómo vamos a negociar si él se prohibió a sí mismo y a todos hacer esto?”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he has “absolutely" no interest in expanding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine to other countries and accused the West of exaggerating the nuclear threat posed by his country.

During a two-hour interview with Tucker Carlson in Moscow on Tuesday, Mr Putin accused North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) countries of trying to intimidate their populations with an “imaginary” Russian threat.

NATO is a military alliance formed by 29 European countries, together with the United States and Canada.

When Mr. Carlson asked him if he thought NATO was worried that the Ukraine conflict will turn into a world war or a nuclear conflict, Putin replied, "At least that's what they say,” and attributed that concern to attempts to manipulate public opinion.

“They are trying to intimidate their own population into an imaginary Russian threat," Mr Putin added. “This is an obvious fact."

President Putin insisted that informed people, in particular analysts and those engaged in current politics, understand that the perceived threat is “false.”

"They are trying to feed the Russian threat."

"Send Russian troops to Poland?”
In the interview, the Russian president clarified that the threat he was talking about referred to the possible expansion of the conflict, including Russian forces invading Poland and other Eastern European countries.

“Can you imagine a scenario in which Russian troops are sent to Poland?Mr. Carlson asked him.

President Putin categorically stated that such a scenario would only happen if "Poland attacks Russia."

“Why would we do that? We just don't have any interest. This is just a threat”" the president added.

He also dismissed the accusation that his invasion of Ukraine indicates that he has great territorial ambitions.

“That is absolutely out of place,” Putin said. “You don't have to be any kind of analyst. a it is against common sense to get involved in some kind of global war, as a global war would bring all of humanity to the brink of destruction. That is evident”"

According to Mr. Putin, Russia has been used to “scare everyone” in the United States and Europe with the constant threat of nuclear war, in order to “extort additional money from American and European taxpayers in a confrontation with Russia in the Ukrainian war theater.”

“The goal is to weaken Russia as much as possible,” the president added.

The interview, which marks the first time a Western journalist has interviewed the Russian president since the conflict began in 2022, delved into various topics.

In defense of the war in Ukraine, Mr. Putin spoke for more than 30 minutes about the history of Eastern Europe.

"Tell us why you think the United States might attack Russia out of the blue,” Mr. Carlson asked. “How did you come to that conclusion?”

"It's not that America, the United States, was going to launch a surprise attack against Russia,” Putin said. “I didn't say that. Are we having a conversation or a serious conversation?”.

The Russian president claimed that certain regions of Ukraine had historical ties with Russia and had been part of its territory for a long period.

The war will “end in a few weeks” if the US stops arming Ukraine
In October 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shut down the prospects of having peace talks with Mr. Putin when he signed a decree.

When Mr. Carlson asked Mr. Putin why they had not held peace talks, he replied referring to President Zelensky: "But how are we going to negotiate if he forbade himself and everyone to do this?”.

President Putin said the last time he spoke to President Joe Biden was before Russia invaded Ukraine, when he told him that U.S. aid to Ukraine would be a “big mistake.” The Russian president suggested Mr Carlson ask the White House for more details about their conversation.

The Russian president indicated that the war in Ukraine could end in a few weeks if the United States stops arming Ukraine, insisting that communication channels remain open between Moscow and Washington.

When asked why he doesn't pick up the phone and call President Biden to say, “Let's solve this,” Mr. Putin responded by asking Mr. Carlson, but “What needs to be solved?”.

“This is very simple. I repeat. We have contacts through various agencies. I will tell you what we are saying on this issue and what we are conveying to the American leadership. If they really want to stop fighting, they should stop supplying weapons. This will be over in a few weeks. That's it and then we will be able to come to an agreement on some terms,” Mr Putin said.

Mr. Carlson's last question focused on the detained American journalist, Evan Gershkovich. The Russian president indicated that there are ongoing talks with American officials and there is a possibility of reaching an agreement to release the reporter “if our partners take reciprocal measures.”

He also referred to his relations with American presidents, stating that he had a “very good relationship” with President George W. Bush.

“He was no worse than any other American, Russian or European politician”" President Putin said. "I assure you that he understood that what he was doing was as good as the others. I also had a very personal relationship with Trump."
