Hamas officials reported 11 Palestinians were killed in strikes overnight in Rafah, hours after Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu claimed there were four Hamas battalion stationed in the border city currently packed with an estimated 1 million displaced Palestinians with nowhere to flee to.

Washington insisted it would not support an attack that didn't support civilians, with White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre insisting that Israel had "reiterated their willingness to provide these types of assurances."

Netanyahu ridiculed Hamas' counter-proposal for a ceasefire that had been backed by the US as "delusional" earlier this week.
