Bobcat Tractor (DPF) Diesel Particulate Filter Modes
Bobcat tractors with Tier 4 engines and more than 24hp have Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF). They remove the black soot you have seen come out the exhaust of older diesel engines. There are 4 Lights that the tractor has when it comes to the operation for cleaning the DPF.
Passive Mode- Engine RPMs and Temps are high enough that it puts out little soot and what it does put out the exhaust temp is high enough to burn out of the filter without you even knowing. There are no lights or notifications for this process.
Active Mode- A red filter/thermometer light comes on to tell you that you are at 80-100% filter soot and the ECU is adding fuel to the filter to help burn it out when the engine is above 1600 rpms. Other than the light being on until completion, which is approximately 20 minutes, you DO NOT need to initiate the Regen process yourself with the switch. You can however cancel the process if you want by pushing the DPF rocker switch down.
Parked Mode Part 1- A red flashing filter light comes on to tell you that the filter is at 120-160% soot. At this point you should park the tractor in a safe place, set the brake and let it idle for 3-4 minutes and then manually push the DPF switch to the up position and hold for 2 seconds. Once started the process takes approximately 30-40 minutes. Again you are allowed to cancel the process if need be. The engine will be de-rated below 2000 rpms.
Parked Mode Part 2- A solid red filter light comes on to notify you that the filter is at 160-200% soot level. You have reached this point by having canceled the previous (Active or Parked 1) Regen processes. It is mandatory that you do a Manual Regen immediately. The process is the same as Part 1.
Service Mode- A yellow engine light comes on telling you there is a problem that only the dealership can deal with. More than likely you have cancelled multiple Regens or there is a problem with the Regen system itself. The engine will be de-rated below 1300 rpms.
