Sihanoukville, a coastal gem in Cambodia, once celebrated for its pristine beaches like Otres and Serendipity, and the enchanting Koh Rong islands, a haven for snorkeling and diving. Today, however, it wears the mask of an unsightly concrete jungle, drawing criticism from tourists. Koh Rong Sanloem, too, faced a decline in popularity due to inner-island conflicts and foreign investments.

In recent years, Sihanoukville has undergone a dramatic transformation fueled by Chinese investments, reshaping it from a tranquil Cambodian town into a city with strong Chinese influence. My first visit in 2015 left me with fond memories, but returning today reveals an almost unrecognizable cityscape compared to just a decade ago.

The surge in Chinese investments led to the construction of towering high-rises and casinos, many of which remain unfinished, leaving behind concrete shells that dot the city. The fate of these abandoned structures remains uncertain, raising questions about the long-term impact of foreign investment on Sihanoukville.

Embark on a tour with me, starting at Ou Chheuteal Beach, meandering through abandoned constructions to reach Phsar Leu Market. As we turn to witness the city by night, the once-vibrant landscape is now a canvas of contrasting transformations. Our journey along the beach, now adorned with predominantly Chinese restaurants, marks the conclusion of this walking exploration of the evolving Sihanoukville. πŸ–οΈπŸ™οΈπŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ #SihanoukvilleTransformation #CambodiaAdventure
