The War Among Supporters of Approval Voting / Star verses Ranked Choice or Instant Runoff Voting

Ballot reform is becoming a big issue as more people realize that the two establishment parties that have run this nation into the ground are increasingly awful, yet Americans are stuck with a voting system, first-past-the-post, that often forces them to vote for one of those parties anyway. Several alternative voting systems have been proposed and are increasingly coming into use. So much so that there is now a flame-war going on between the alternative that has gotten the most traction (aleit usually with a poison pill attached) and the other alternatives. Who is right and why?
