Israel's Prime Minister has declared that there is no other solution but total victory over Hamas, which he believes is a matter of months away. It deals a blow to hopes of a ceasefire deal between the two sides.

Hamas had proposed a four and a half month ceasefire, during which all hostages would be released in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians jailed by Israel.

The group also wants a full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and a timetable for an end to the war.
