US President Joe Biden says that his predecessor Donald Trump is using the US-Mexico border issue as his own weapon aiming to intimidate Republicans into voting against this deal.
"The border’s been broken. It’s long past time to fix it. That’s why two months ago, I instructed my team to begin negotiations with a bipartisan group of Senators to seriously, and finally, address the border crisis. For weeks now that’s what they’ve done. Working around the clock, through the holidays, and over weekends. Let’s be clear. What’s been negotiated would – if passed into law – be the toughest and fairest set of reforms to secure the border we’ve ever had in our country," Biden said.
In his opinion, Donald Trump is using the migration issue as his own weapon and wants to intimidate Republicans into voting against this deal.
"I understand that the former president is desperate to stop this bill. Because he doesn't want to solve the problem, he wants to profit from it. Republicans have to decide: Who do they serve? Donald Trump or the American people? Are they here to solve problems, or just weaponize problems for political purposes? I know my answer. I serve the American people. I’m here to solve problems," the US president said.
At the same time, Biden said that if the bill fails, he will bring this issue to the attention of the American people.
Biden proposed to Congress to allocate $106 billion in aid to Ukraine and Israel, but Senate Republicans demanded that the bill be amended to include more radical proposals to protect the border with Mexico.
