Thetford Town Council: What Are They Afraid of?

I recently attended a Town Council meeting in Thetford and was deeply disappointed by the decision of the Council to avoid filming the public questions portion of the meeting. As a concerned Thetford town councillor, and a believer in transparency and accountability in local government, I believe that all aspects of the meeting should be recorded and made available to the public.

It is important to note that there is no expectation of privacy in a public setting, such as a Town Council meeting. The meetings are open to the public and are meant to be a place where residents can voice their concerns, ask questions, and hold their elected officials accountable. By not filming the public questions portion of the meeting, the Council is effectively limiting the access of the public to information and hindering the ability of residents to stay informed about the decisions being made by their local government.

Transparency and accountability are essential components of a functioning democracy, and the decision to avoid filming the public questions portion of the meeting goes against these principles. It is crucial for the public to have access to all aspects of the meeting, including the questions and concerns raised by fellow residents.

I hope that the Thetford Town Council will reconsider their decision and prioritize transparency and accountability in their future meetings. The residents of Thetford deserve to have full access to the information and discussions taking place in their local government, and I urge the Council to reconsider their decision and make all portions of the meeting available for public viewing.
