Will Trump Ditch Taiwan if Elected President?

As a geopolitical analyst, I ask: how may a Trump presidency change the political calculation for China when it comes to Taiwan?
Debate is already swirling in Washington and other parts of the world as the former president refrained from stating whether, during his term, the US would come to Taiwan’s aid even if it meant going to war against Beijing.

"During the majority of the Trump administration, one of the kept secrets in Washington was that Trump didn't care about Taiwan," argued Evan Medeiros, former National Security Council senior director for Asia under President Barack Obama. "There were some rumors that, in fact, he even said that during meetings with Chinese officials." One thing is sure: the world has entered a multipolar order where the US is no longer the sole upper power; and with that comes other changes that compel all parties involved to go back to the drawing board and rethink their geopolitical calculations. In a rapidly changing global landscape, the Trump Effect on China’s Taiwan calculations has opened a Pandora’s box.
