SUBADULT
In primate maturation there is a state between infancy and childhood, but before adulthood, called a “subadult.”
Primatology studies have shown that a subadult’s social environment only affects their social development in one single way: When raised by properly socialized adults, subadults will adopt differentiated sexual behavior - which is to say, the males become more male, and the females more female. However, when raised amongst only a peer group with no adults present - male and female subadult behavior approaches a common medium, in everything from aggression to sexuality. If adults are removed from the equation, and with no guiding authority, primate genders tend to blend into a single social norm with the worst traits of both.
