The Day the Earth Caught Fire is a 1961 British science fiction disaster film. It is considered one of the classic apocalyptic films of its time.
The Magnificent 60s
The film is about two journalists who discover that the United States and Russia simultaneously testing atomic bombs have caused the Earth's rotation to change. The journalists, Peter Stenning (Edward Judd) and Bill Maguire (Leo McKern), work out that the twin bomb tests are the reason for the incidents. They break the story and set about investigating the government cover-up.
The film was directed by Val Guest and also stars Janet Munro.
