Squirrels are found everywhere in the world except Australia and Antarctica. Some tropical squirrels have black and white stripes. Many have large eyes, sharp eyesight and keen sense of distance between branches. Their front legs are short, with sharp claws on the toes, with which the tree-dwelling species can easily climb the trees. The long hind legs provide the forward momentum needed for jumping.
There are currently 270 species of squirrels in the world, Bangladesh has 8 species. Among them, five-striped squirrels and three-striped squirrels are relatively more common in human contact. Squirrels have small front legs and large hind legs, so they can jump very easily.
