Bakersfield, California — On November 26, 2023, at approximately 6:00 PM, the Bakersfield Police Department Communications Center received a call from a male subject who believed his mother was deceased. Two Bakersfield Police Department officers were dispatched to the residence in the 2100 block of Manning Street. Bakersfield Fire Department personnel arrived prior to the police officers and confirmed the female was deceased. The officers spoke with the caller who was identified as 53-year-old David Oh. The officers were on-scene conducting the death investigation for approximately an hour and forty minutes.

The death investigation did not reveal any suspicious circumstances related to the death, but the officers learned Oh had a restraining order preventing him from being within 100 yards of his mother and an outstanding warrant out of Los Angeles for robbery. The officers developed a plan to arrest Oh for the warrant when the death investigation concluded and the coroner's office transported the deceased. Officers tried to arrest Oh after the death investigation, but he pulled a knife and did not drop it when officers ordered him to and he was shot. The officers rendered medical aid to Oh until medical personnel arrived. Oh was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel. One of the witness officers was cut by Oh during the incident. He had one minor laceration on his hand which he received medical care for.
