A pioneer frontiersman of liberty
Freedom was his callin' 'n he was free

Then there was ol' Jim BBowie 'n his knife
How brave he was there in that fight
To make the supreme sacrifice
'cause he paid for his courage with his life

There amongst the cottonwood trees

Remember hoe Colonel Travis took command
With his sword he drew a line in the sand
Asked each one to take a stand
Though they all knew they would perish
Down to the last man

What was it like when they crossed over that line?
'N crossed over into eternity in their minds?
They musta known right then the sweet shortness of life
Yet steadfast they remained in that deep night

For 14 days the cannons bombarded the ramparts
Where soon stood the Texans against the bloody charge
They fought for their freedom with all their hearts
With the Lonestar flyin' above in the dark

You know they could have all easily escaped
Saved their own lives left 'n run away
But they had chosen right there to stay
'N to remain at their posts come what may

Minutes seemed like hours as the battle raged on
Our heroes fought with honor but fell one by one
"N when the fightin' had stopped just before dawn
Outnumbered 25 to 1 all of them were gone

As the news spread across the land
All freedom lovin' Texans joined in a fiery band
So many volunteered to lend a helpin' hand
"N the cry went up from man to man
