President Ronald Reagan makes an argument for the intelligent design of the universe. These comments were part of his remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast on February 4, 1988.

The interesting thing is that Reagan’s argument for design wasn’t part of the prepared text for his remarks that morning. Nor was it included in any of the earlier drafts of his speech, including ones he marked up. In other words, the story wasn’t written for him by his speechwriters. It seems to have been a spontaneous contribution from Reagan himself.
