Ramayana is an Indian television series based on the ancient Indian Sanskrit epic of the same name. The series originally aired on Doordarshan between 1987 and 1988.
The credit for producing, writing and directing this series goes to Shri Ramanand Sagar. This series is mainly based on 'Ramayana' written by Valmiki and 'Ramcharitmanas' written by Tulsidas.
The serial was watched by a record 82 percent viewership, a record for any Indian television series.
