In July 2023, Lancet Zala Aero's Russian CEO Alexander Zakharov boasted that he could increase UAV production fifty-fold. However, instead of an increase in the number of Russian Lancets at war, the Ukrainian military has seen a decrease.
This could be the result of a successful Ukrainian special operation, writes Forbes.
The publication claims that this assumption is confirmed by information from the Ukrainian OSINT group Molfar, which is involved in sabotage operations in Russia.
Last August, a powerful explosion occurred at the Zagorsk optical-mechanical plant in Sergiev Posad, near Moscow. Initially, the Russian Federation claimed that a Ukrainian drone had been shot down over the factory. It later emerged that the explosion had occurred in the warehouse of the Piro Ross fireworks company.
The arrested general director of Piro Ross, Sergei Chankaev, denied that the explosion had anything to do with his company. According to him, the explosion took place in another building.
The publication suggests, "given Russia's practice of withholding information", that the explosion took place on the premises of the Zagorsk Optical and Mechanical Plant, which supplied certain assemblies to Lancet Zala Aero. "There is no proven link between the factory near Moscow and the production of kamikaze drones. But the explosion clearly had an impact," notes Forbes.
But the blast obviously had an effect," Forbes notes, citing statistics on the decline of Russian Lancets in war.
The drone is equipped with an opto-electronic guidance unit and a television guidance unit, allowing for end-stage control of the munition. It does not use satellite navigation and is protected against laser weapons.
