BAIER: “Jen, I heard Senator Warner say there could be freelance operators in some of these Iranian proxy groups. Inside the Pentagon, inside intel, don’t they kind of give a hat tip that everybody is sort of connected to Iran? Definitely funded directly.”
GRIFFIN: “Well, certainly funded, certainly the weapons come from Iran, certainly they couldn’t really operate at the level they have been operating at, without the help from Iran. That being said, if you look at the Houthis in Yemen, they have always been a slightly unruly bunch, and the command and control and the direct command and control from Iran has always been a little bit sketchy, you know, the Iranians can turn these groups on. It’s not so easy at times for them to turn them off. In Iraq and Syria. I think they have more control because they have IRGC commanders who have been embedded with them on the ground. I think many of those commanders left back to Iran in these recent days as, again, we have reported that it’s been telegraphed that these strikes would be coming.”
