Jesus gives us the Lord's Prayer
Jesus gives us the Lord's Prayer. In Matthew 6:5 -13, Jesus points out two examples of incorrect ways to pray, and then gives the correct way to pray commonly known as "The Lord's Prayer." This prayer has been prayed for over 2000 years and is still being prayed all over the world. You can pray this prayer exactly as it is written or use it as a model to design your own prayer by following the foundation laid out by Jesus in Matthew 6. (See the link below to free PDf copy of the Lord's prayer)
Here is an example, using the acrostic "A.C.T.S" based on the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6. This will help us understand the Lord's Prayer as a model for prayer.
A = Adoration, this is where we worship God (Our Father who is in heaven hallowed be your name)
C = Confession, this is where we confess our sins and transgression (forgive our trespasses as we for those who trespass against us). By doing this we receive forgiven and our conscience is clear. This allows us to continue to pray without feeling condemned or guilty.
T = Thanksgiving, here we thank God for all of God's blessings and provisions.
S = Supplication/asking, we ask God to meet our daily physical and spiritual needs, food (our daily bread), shelter, and employment. Our spiritual needs (lead us not into temptation) and spiritual protection (deliver us from the evil one).
Bible Text: Matthew 6:5-13: 5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one
I pray this wonderful prayer will be part of your life each and every day.
Blessings
