Title: Pakistani-Style Basmati Rice
Ingredients:
2 cups Basmati rice
3 tablespoons ghee or cooking oil
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
4 whole cloves
4 green cardamom pods
Water for soaking
Fresh cilantro or mint for garnish
Instructions:
Rinse the Basmati Rice:
Thoroughly rinse 2 cups of Basmati rice under cold water to remove excess starch. This ensures the grains cook evenly and don't stick together.
Toast the Rice with Spices:
In a pot, heat 3 tablespoons of ghee or cooking oil over medium heat.
Add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 4 whole cloves, and 4 green cardamom pods to the hot ghee/oil.
Toast the spices for a minute until fragrant, allowing their flavors to infuse into the fat.
Add Basmati Rice:
Add the rinsed Basmati rice to the pot, gently stirring to coat each grain with the aromatic spices and ghee/oil.
Soak the Rice:
Allow the rice to soak in water for about 15-20 minutes. This helps the grains plump up for a fluffy texture during cooking.
Simmer the Rice:
Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot with the spices.
Pour water into the pot, using the appropriate water-to-rice ratio for Basmati rice (usually 1.5 to 2 cups of water per cup of rice).
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
Fluff and Garnish:
Once cooked, fluff the rice gently with a fork to separate the grains.
Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro or mint for a burst of freshness.
Serve:
Pakistani-style Basmati Rice is ready to be served as a perfect accompaniment to your favorite curries, kebabs, or lentil dishes.
