Forget the Roundabout, Northern Michigan prepares for its first diverging diamond interchange.

Beginning in 2026, The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin construction on the diverging diamond design as part of the I-75 and M-32 construction in Gaylord.

MDOT says the interchange improves safety, increases traffic flow, and can reduce construction costs. Other constructions of this design have already happened in Grand Rapids and Jackson County.

At a cost of $55 million, the project is expected to be completed in 2027.
