Montreal Police Permit Journalist to Break Federal Gun Laws?

Tristan Péloquin, a journalist for a French newspaper in Montreal, published a story titled 'Buying an unregistered gun is child's play,' his personal account of acquiring an illegal firearm online without a licence. After 'infiltrating' a Quebec Facebook Group, Péloquin decided to go further, not only illegally acquiring a SKS, but modifying the magazine (another federal crime), and acquiring steel ammunition (also not permitted in Quebec).

To add insult to injury, Péloquin also claimed to have been given permission to break gun laws from...Wait for it... the Montreal police (SPVM). A highly suspicious claim, given Montreal police have no federal jurisdiction. Where is the RCMP? Crickets.
