The Complete Musashi is my favourite translation and contains a lot of extra background detail.

The Book of Five Rings (五輪書, Go Rin no Sho) is a text on kenjutsu and the martial arts in general, written by the Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi around 1645.

One may question the relevance of a book about swordsmanship in modern life, but at its core this book is about mastery, its principles are timeless. Many parts are echoed in other non-combat focussed works from around the world, and as we’ll many see were far ahead of their time.

I have made an in depth summary of the book elsewhere on my channel

That said, Musashi himself mentions his words are only principles, and only through training will you come to understand them. In listening I suggest placing your focus on its core messages of mastery over yourself, directness of intention and of seizing the initiative and not being passive.
