The point of the video wasn't really to review the film as a whole, as that would take significantly longer and I only wanted to cover how the ending effects the overall product, but I would like to take this opportunity to sing its praises:

Chloe Okuno's direction is phenomenal and the cinematography in general is gorgeous. I didn't go out of my way to include the best-looking shots in this video, the whole movie just looks that good. So natural and yet so iconic. The film is set in Romania and I appreciate that it likens the Spider to Dracula by often casting him in shadows, framing him above Julia, calling our attention to the Dracula figure Julia bought for Francis and having the Spider draw blood from her neck.

Maika Monroe and Burn Gorman's performances are outstanding - maybe the best of both of their careers. The way she conveys so much emotional substance with extremely subtle changes in her facial expressions and demeanor demonstrates undeniable skill. And his depiction of a loner serial killer ranges from pitiable and human to monstrously intense without ever feeling artificial or exaggerated.

Watcher is well-directed, beautiful to look at, atmospherically rich and elevated by actors who own their respective roles. It's a film that I intend to rewatch and appreciate all over again at some point in the future. Although I have my issues with the ending and its impact on the film's believability, I don't want those criticisms to overshadow my admiration for what it got right. 8/10.
