Rambutan are native to South East Asia, in particular Malay-Indonesian region. They are closely related to the lychee and longan. The word ‘rambut’ means hair in Bahasa Indonesia, hence the name, ‘rambutan’ due to the fruits’ hairy outer skin. Rambutan are often covered in little black ants so remember to give them a good shake outside before bringing them indoors. In Indonesia during Rambutan season, their spiky skin can be found littering the streets
