20240129 Day 659 Part-2

Following the bike and toes to bar I got caught up on pressing. I have a love/hate relationship with pressing. I’ve never been great at it with my narrow clavicles and tiny skeleton but I managed some decent numbers in the past for a little guy.

Over the decades, I’ve gone from a bar and pushups, to 3 plates and 115s on incline, to injury, back down to a bar, most of the way back to the top and then injury again. Well, this time around I definitely know better.

Unlike pulling where I still try to push my limits time to time, with pressing it’s almost always minimum effective dose and focusing on the stretch and accumulation of volume to strengthen the connective tissue.

With that in mind, I did 3 movements today. I began with a low incline dumbbell press, then for a supplemental press did Louie’s on the Smith Machine for a slight decline calisthenic.

Lastly, I did overhead cable extensions close grip with the straight bar to hit the long head of the triceps.

3 movements, 15 sets 9-12 rep range for the primary press, sets of 20-ish for the barbell pushups and 15-is reps on the cable extensions.

The signal has been sent and received. Time for a shake. Hopefully there’ll be some pulling tomorrow so I can move something with a bit more heft safely 😂
