French Legislative Election of 1871

After the third republic was declared in Paris’s Town Hall on September 4th, 1870, Paris’s political class decided to set up the government of national defense. France was still deeply enthralled in the Franco-Prussian war, and this government would serve as a temporary force to try to win the war.
