Her Acorn 180 Stairlift Stalled with No C2 J3 E8 F1 F7 Error Codes
This is Rob from Vancouver, Canada. This is a sad story regarding a disabled elderly woman's stairlift. A Washington-state engineer, who unfortunately lacked experience, caused further damage to her Acorn 180 curved stairlift. Her chair stalled midway with no error codes. There were previous warnings, which the engineer and the disabled woman had ignored.
I could much earlier have easily made the correct diagnosis by simple text messages. The proof of this engineer's costly mistake is through his own photo, which he attached to one of his text messages.
Furthermore, instead of consulting me first, he tried to move the dead chair to the top charge pads using jumper cables. Of course, jumper cables did not work in this situation. But he did manage to fry the stairlift's components even further.
I have now worked on six different versions of the Acorn 180 curve stairlift. Acorn 180 stairlifts are very complicated. Engineers lacking in-depth knowledge about startup amp draws, Battery Management Systems, High Self Discharge ("HSD"), internal resistance analysis, supposedly should not get spare parts from Acorn UK, according to "Kevin", a 40-year stairlift installer in Europe. Furthermore, Acorn's head office supplies batteries that are very specific to an Acorn stairlift's serial number.
As an award-winning battery inventor who already got my "15 minutes of fame" in CBC Newsworld, front pages in magazines and newspapers, I would say that Acorn's head office restricts lithium battery sales in order to comply with UK's electrical safety regulations and standards. This subject is even more complicated than "stacked" Acorn 180 stairlift error codes.
The inexperienced Washington-state engineer was unaware of the multi-layered electronic and mechanical user-safety features built into Acorn stair lifts, starting from Acorn model 120 Mark Two, and newer. Much of my repair work is due to mistakes by inexperienced engineers.
In other, better news: Several of my remote clients have put together complicated curved stair lifts from Acorn parts obtained for under $1,300. Most parts were obtained mostly for free. Right now, I know of three working stairlifts that are available for free.
This is Rob's Repairs. I offer local and remote stairlift diagnosis and repairs by phone, text messages, or video teleconference, for Acorn stairlifts in 80 countries. Check out my over fifty repair diary videos online, covering 16 years of fixing Acorn and other stairlifts. James at Acorn sent Acorn's clients to me when his own company engineers could not fix them.
My mobile phone number is shown on most of my repair diary video clips.
Have the best day ever.
