Before this law, victims relied on the perpetrator's probation or sex offender status for protection. However, once those terms expired, the victims were left without any safeguards. Kayleigh's Law was born out of Kayleigh's personal experience as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. When she discovered that her abuser was seeking to have his probation lifted, she realized there was no post-probation protection available to her. This meant that he could freely approach her, even online or at her home, with no legal consequences. Kayleigh's Law aims to prevent such situations and ensure the safety of survivors.
