Out of the Miry Clay
Psalm 40 is a messianic psalm, meaning it speaks of Jesus Christ and provides prophecy about Him. It is not only a messianic psalm, Psalm 40 also provides guidance and comfort for the disciple of Jesus Christ today. The opening verses of Psalm 40 are also often quoted as the testimony of a person that has been born again.
Salvation is God’s work, I must cry out to Him in faith, believing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and trusting Him fully. It is not about the benefits of being born again and going to Heaven. It is about the fact that I am a sinner in need of salvation from the wrath and condemnation of God and I need the Saviour. Jesus Christ is the only Saviour – there is none other – and a person must believe on His death on the cross in payment for all of my sins, His burial in the sepulchre, and His resurrection on the third day. Jesus Christ is the only Saviour – there are plenty of self proclaimed saviors, but they, too, will one die and die without Jesus Christ.
