Harnwell: French government blinks as farmer protest reaches the gates of Paris

The “farmer protests” that have been flaring up across Europe in recent weeks — Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania to name just the big ones — grew to over 70,000 people in France this week.

Paris is now blockaded, and the protesters — who enjoy around 90% approval ratings from their fellow countrymen — have dismissed as inadequate the emergency concessions offered by the new government.

Indeed, the protesters — sensing the panic and weakness of the governing class — are digging in. What will President Emmanuel “Louis XVI” Macron in his growing desperation do next?!
