24-0126 - Scappoose City Council Explore 24/7 CCSO Contract - Would End Police Dept

Scappoose, Oregon, located northwest of Portland more than 20 miles, is a small community of less than 9,000 people.

Earlier this week, the city council acknowledged two of its councilors were researching to disband the local police department.

This information was discussed in open council, and was expanded and confirmed by other city government connected individuals.

I was told the February 5, 2023 meeting is when this issue was going to be addressed.

In the video, in case it isn't clear, the city manager and police chief, who have resigned to pursue other opportunities, I have been told these two, along with the lieutenant worked diligently to pursue high quality candidates either as new officers or lateral transfers in an effort to rebuild the department.
